Presentation Summary: This presentation will provide an overview of the Railroad Safety Section and the Railroad Grade Crossing inspector’s authority, role and mission. Our speaker will discuss what a railroad crossing inspection looks at and how the local agency might be involved. Additional topics include crossing projects (modification, new crossings, widening, adding traffic signal, adding medians, repaving, closing crossings, AZCC application process), incident investigation including blocked crossings, rough crossings, noise, train/vehicle accidents, trespassing, homeless encampments, Quiet Zones, Operation Lifesaver, and Union Pacific railroad crossing surfaces.

Presenter Biography: Jason Pike is a Senior Grade Crossing Inspector/Data Manager with Arizona Corporation Commission – Railroad Safety Section (5 years). He spent 5 years at ADOT Utility and Railroad Section-updating the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) inventory on every public crossing, and every closed crossing in the state. He has also worked as the Railway-Highway Grade Crossing (AKA Section 130) program manager, FRA Grade Crossing Inspector in training for District 7, and is an Arizona Operation Lifesaver board member.
