Hello New Mexico ITE Members and Affiliates!

Please join us on Thursday February 4, 2021 at 11:30 AM for our monthly meeting.  Note that this month's meeting will be held virtually (via Microsoft Teams).

Beginning this month, the New Mexico Section will be charging a nominal $5 fee to attend the virtual meeting.  This fee will allow us to continue supporting our student chapter, including their participation in ITE Student Leadership Summits, Mountain District Annual Meetings, and the ITE International Collegiate Traffic Bowl competition.  As a benefit of your continued membership in ITE International and your payment of Section dues, meeting fees will be waived for current Members.  But you will have the opportunity to contribute $5 toward our student programs when you register.  Please attend and support our next generation of transportation engineers!

This month's presentation will be: Dr. Nick Ferenchak and Dr. Haobing Liu from the University of New Mexico Department of Civil Engineering who will give us an update on the Transportation Engineering program at UNM, the UNM-ITE Student Chapter, and will highlight some of their current transportation engineering research.

Dr. Ferenchak is focused on developing sustainable and resilient transportation systems primarily through improved health and safety outcomes. His current research focuses on multimodal aspects of emerging transportation technologies and their impact on health and safety. Dr. Ferenchak teaches highway and traffic engineering on the undergraduate and graduate level.  He is active in domestic and international societies including the Transportation Research Board and Institute of Transportation Engineers.

Dr. Liu joined Civil Department at UNM as an assistant professor on August 2020. Dr. Liu is focused on vehicle energy, emissions, and air quality impact modeling, and statistical modeling in transportation application. He currently teaches Highway & Traffic Engineering, and Survey Class at UNM. Dr. Liu is a Member in the standing committee on Air Quality and Greenhouse Gas Mitigation at Transportation Research Board. He is also an editorial board member in the journal Transportation Research Part D.
