  • Speaker: Qichao Wang, Postdoctoral Researcher in Computational Sciences, National Renewable Energy Laboratory
  • Moderator: Chris DeRosia, Senior Transportation Engineer, EST Inc.
  • Date: August 20th at 12:00 – 1:30 pm

  • Cost: $5 for all

Theories which support modern simulation techniques will be presented including agents, environment, time, communication and evolvement rule.  The modeling and simulation process will be reviewed and ties between real and simulated systems will be explained prior to walking through building a simulation in Vissim.  Tips will be given to aid newer users in coding the software to evaluate real life networks including for traffic signal control, various facility types and speeds, and considering lane changing and weaving challenges.  Additional evaluation techniques will provide for better understanding of fundamentals like time-space diagrams and benefits of pivot table use.  Brief explanation of other tools and expanded Vissim functionality will lay the groundwork for future continuing education topics to come.  This includes the Vissim COM interface, Vissim API, and open source software tools like SUMO.  Participants will be given a handout, which they may study ahead of time, that includes a good introduction to the software if they have no prior experience.
