Please help us congratulate the 2025 ITE Nevada Section Award winners. The Nevada Section presented these awards during the 2026 Engineer's Week Gala on Saturday, February 21, 2026.
2025 Transportation Professional of the Year - Alma Al-Fawal, Project Manager, AtkinsRéalis
Alma Al-Fawal is currently a Project Manager at AtkinsRéalis. Alma has exceptional technical expertise and project management skills across diverse transportation projects. She is the deputy project manager for the RTC Safe Streets for All Southern Nevada Action Plan and the City of Las Vegas Vision Zero Action Plan Update. One of her current projects include I-80 Enhancing Corridor Communication Roadmap Project, one of its kind that improve corridor communication and safety. Alma is currently the Community Outreach Chair for the ITE Nevada Section that have expanded ITE's visibility and impact.
2025 Transportation Project of the Year - I-15 / Tropicana Avenue Interchange, Nevada Department of Transportation
The Tropicana Avenue Interchange serves as the critical connector between Interstate 15, the Las Vegas Strip, and major employment districts, facilitating vital traffic flow for over 3,000,000 motorists on peak days. Planning began in 2015 and construction successfully completed in 2025. The project was built upon a robust partnership between the Nevada Department of Transportation, RTC Southern Nevada, Clark County, and the Federal Highway Administration. Public benefits include enhanced commutes, significantly reduced congestion, improved pedestrian safety with 10-foot-wide sidewalks, and aesthetic improvements that reflect the vibrant and ever-evolving character of Las Vegas.

We are proud to announce the creation of our new Nevada Section Blog! Spearheaded by Nicholas Portugal, our current Communications Committee Chair, this blog will serve as a space for members and board members to contribute valuable perspectives and insight on all things ITE. Examples may include advice for younger members aspiring to forge successful careers within the transportation industry, key takeaways from professional development opportunities such as from monthly chapter events and conferences, or insight regarding technical/professional development resources available within Mountain District ITE and/or ITE International. The first ITE Nevada Section Luncheon of 2025 was a success! Several members reported that the luncheon was well-attended, network opportunities were plentiful, and the UNR Engineering Student Presentations were thought-provoking. In attendance was Jenny L. Grote (GroTrans Engineering, LLC), an Honorary Member of ITE as of 2022. Jenny provided excellent insight regarding upcoming events that Mountain District ITE members won't want to miss out on, such as the 2025 Student Leadership Summit taking place on June 3, 2025 in Santa Fe, NM, as well as the 2025 ITE International Annual Meeting from August 10-13, 2025 in Orlando, FL.
